Release date: 19 February 2025

Overview

The search functionality on the Container tracking table view on the Portcast Web Application already allowed you to search by container number, carrier or even default custom fields (sometimes referred to augmented data). We have expanded this functionality to also include your own custom fields and made searching more broad across the table view.

Feature description

The ocean visibility solution inside the Portcast platform includes the possibility to integrate custom data onto each container, provided by the customer. This existing functionality empowers Portcast users to bring their own data onto the platform, for a centralized experience.

It also allows them to superpower the ways in which containers can be categorized, searched an filtered. These fields can be created and managed in the Org settings, and can be of multiple types and include single or multiple values.

Good examples of augmented data field usage include SKUs associated with the shipment, associated customer, order dimensions or weight, etc. This feature is very adaptable to whatever use case you might have in terms of injecting your own data, and is also integrated onto the bulk upload functionality - allowing you to import your shipments along with your custom data, mapped onto the fields you’ve previously set-up on the platform.

Up to the release of this feature extension, though, it was only possible to search, using the top level search input bar, the scope of ‘default’ custom fields. These include the fields that were pre-created on your Org upon first usage, and that are transversal to all customers on the Portcast App.

This feature release augments the scope of the search field, allowing users of the platform to search by any custom field’s contents. So if you create a new custom field called “Internal Reference”, for example, and manually add content to your existing containers on these fields, or bulk upload containers with a data column mapped to this custom field, you will now be able to search for your containers based on the data you filled for them.

To access the feature, Web Application users can simply go to the Container table view and start typing on the search bar for existing content inside their custom fields. The table search results should auto-filter and update results displayed based on your search query.

Who’s Impacted?

Impacted users by this feature include every user of the Web Application using custom fields that go beyond the initial set of pre-defined fields.

This feature should increase the ease of use of the search functionality in the container table view and allow quick filtering using a wider range of fields.
