In this guide we will dive into how to use the single container view to analyze and track a specific container and all the underlying data. Additionally, you can refer to the guide on Using the Container Table view to understand how to use the table list of available containers in your Org.
The single container view is displayed once you access one of the previously uploaded containers in your Org, either via API or the Portcast Web Application.
Example of a single container view in the Portcast Web Application
In the single Container view, one has access to several sections of container information:
Title bar Displays the Container number, status of the container (Arrived, Delayed, Journey in Progress…) and route from POL to POD, including transshipment ports.
Also includes Sharing and Language Changing buttons and functionality (more on that below).
Information cards
Content tabs
Detailed Events tab: A timeline displaying the list of milestone events that have already been observed or are predicted in the container voyage. Detailed information on the timeline view of events can be found on the associated KB article.
Custom Details tab: displays a list of available custom fields and the data that has been filled for each field that is associated with this container. You can click on the “edit” button to unlock the fields and manually change the values for each field. Included fields can be default (common to all Portcast Orgs) or Org-specific. Learn more about adding and editing custom fields in the associated KB article.
Terminal Details tab: Export and Import terminal information connected to the container (availability of this information varies from port to port). This information can be changed by users in the same way that custom fields work. Available information includes:
Terminal type | Available fields |
---|---|
Export | Earliest Receiving Date, Gate In, Cutoff, Terminal ETA, Terminal ATA, Terminal ATB |
Import | Terminal ETA, Yard Location, Status, Discharge, Last Free Day, Container Hold, Demurrage Owed, Gate out, Available for Delivery, Appointment Set, Appointment Date, Empty Returned |
Conversations tab: allows collaboration under the container context with member of your team, via chat or mentions.
Voyage route map: Displays a map of the container ocean voyage, including POL/POD/TS ports, actual route, ideal route, incidents observed en route, current location and risk areas (for example, Red Sea Crisis risk areas). Availability of information displayed on the map varies depending on the carrier provided information on container, vessel, and on the current status of the voyage.
The actual route track displayed is also coded visually, depending on the quality and frequency of the underlying AIS data for the carrier vessels’ route. In some situations, portions of the route can be marked as “approximate” due to lesser frequency of collected data for that specific segment.
The single container page includes a sharing feature that allows you to share the contents of that page with members of your team, or customers, without having to add them onto your Portcast Org account. To do this, you can click, on the top right of the page, on the “Share” button; this will automatically copy the sharing link to your clipboard, allowing you to then paste it into whatever platform via which you want to share it (email, social network, word doc…).
